Secondary Landscape by Mount Fuji Architects Studio; Tokyo, Japan

When was the last time you went on your rooftop to enjoy your city’s view from above?I’m guessing it’s been a while, probably due to the fact that said view isn’t quite what you’d call…irresistible. Modernism brought flat rooftops to the masses, inadvertently, creating some of the ugliest urbanscapes known to man. Usually abandoned, filled with defunct objects, A/C units, antennas and satellite dishes rooftops have become the grand scale equivalent of sweeping dust under the rug.
Enter Mount Fuji Architects Studio, a group of Tokyo architects that seem to have tackled the problem brilliantly (on a side note, it makes perfect sense that the solution would come from the world’s most populated city). They revived an abandoned roof, creating an example to follow. And with green roofs on the rise, it seems like the perfect moment to start changing the view from atop.
