00:47This has been, for quite some time now, one of my absolute favorites architects’ work spaces. (Come to think of it, I should probably try and document all the rest). Lehrer Architects Studio by Lehrer Architects LA; Los Angeles, USA.

23:02I don’t get why/how Japanese architects do that. They go around building things that would probably seem naive or redundant on paper, yet they always leave me dumbstruck once completed. On the cherry blossom by A.L.X.; Tokyo, Japan.

02:23I first laid eyes on Nishizawa’s blob-like model at a conference held in Venice by the Benesse Foundation a couple of years back (Benesse is responsible for an ambitious plan promoting art tourism, through development, in seven islands of the Inland Sea of Japan). The scale model looked particularly odd then, and still does now, even after it has been built and inaugurated. Never mind its awkwardness though; if your aim is to impress then you can bet the house on the SANAA head architect. Teshima Art Museum by Ryue Nishizawa; Teshima island; Japan.

12:50Where does the apple fall?
Architects are fantastic. They are imaginative. They are visionaries. Architects engulf a society’s needs and expound the soul of our culture with their buildings. And most of the time they are full of themselves. And they want their children to be just like them.

Which, if you are a fairly talented and well–known professional, doesn’t seem like the most selfless thing you can do for your child. Architects, be they known or less so, have always been pretty pushy (either directly or indirectly) regarding what their offsprings should do with their lives. After all, what else could they become, if not the greatest profession in the whole wide world? I’ve recently posted another example of this widely confirmed trend and this time it’s Alvaro Siza’s son who fits the bill. Casa Fez by Alvaro Leite Siza; Porto, Portugal.
